Day 1: Arrive Lhasa.
Fly into Lhasa or enter the city via the overland route from mainland China or Nepal. Gonggar Airport lies about an hour’s drive from Lhasa. Our representative will meet you at the airport or the designated stop and escort you to your hotel. At the hotel you will be briefed on your itinerary.
Day 2: Lhasa Sightseeing- Potala Palace, Sera monastery.
We commence our sightseeing tour with a visit to Potala Palace. The impressive 13-storied structure dominates Lhasa’s landscape. The palace served as the winter retreat of Dalai Lama. Potala Palace was built during the 7th century on the Marpo Ri (Red Mountain). Next we head to Sera Monastery, an important centre of learning of the Gelugpa (Yellow Hat) sect. Built in the 15th century the monastery’s large courtyards are filled with monks holding debates on sutras. The monastery contains religious relics and murals.
Day 3: Sightseeing- Drepung Monastery, Jokhang Temple and Barkhor Market.
We continue our sightseeing tour and visit Drepung Monastery. The monastery lies 5km from Lhasa. Ancient relics and statues of Boddhisattvas, Amitayus are housed inside the monastery’s hallowed chambers.
Later in the day we head to Jokhang Temple & Barkhor Market. Buddhism in Tibet spread after Jokhang Temple was built. The temple was built by King Songsten Gampo to house the idol of Lord Buddha brought by his Nepalese Queen Brikuti from Nepal. Barkhor Square, a busy local market surrounds this temple. Walk around and watch pilgrims prostrating or shop for souvenirs.
Day 4: Depart Lhasa.
Depart Lhasa via air or overland. Our representative will drop you to the airport or to the point of departure.
The best time is during the pre-monsoon (March to May) and post-monsoon (late September to November) seasons for stable weather and clear views.
